CASE STUDY:
Mine Winder Super Brake
Installed in one of South Africa's deepest gold mines the Blair, multi rope, single winders are manufactured by Fuller Vecor and operate at Anglo American's Vaal Reef number 11 shaft.
Known as the "Super Winders" they are designed to raise and lower the weight of 14 family cars down a 3.1 kilometre deep mine shaft. The payload is not excessive, but add the weight of the 3 kilometre long ropes and the engineering requirements make these some of the world's largest winders.

Venezuela's longest conveyor
Snaking its way down a 500 metre high mountain Venezuela's longest conveyor smoothly carries 1600 tons of bauxite every hour to stockpiles or rail wagons before transporting it 50 miles north west to the Orinoco River.
On arrival it is transferred to barges for the start of a two day journey down river to Porto Ordaz where it is converted to alumina before being fed to the hungry smelters dominating this area of Bolivar State.
